CASE STUDY: Trunkline's
Experiences in Operating and Maintaining a LNG Terminal
After the Completetion of Expansion Projects
Tommy Stone, vp of operations
and engineering, Trunkline LNG (SUG)
Trunkline LNG completed the Phase II terminal
expansion in July, increasing sustained sendout
to 1.8 Bcf/d and peak to 2.1 Bcf/d. The Phase II
expansion also included the construction of unloading
capabilities at the terminal's second dock. Stone
has been asked to describe SUG's perspectives and
lessons learned. |

Preparing for
Handoff: The Final Weeks of Construction, Commissioning,
and Owner Preparation.
Gerry Ohlhaver, principal,
Zeus Development Corp.
As LNG import and export facilities near completion,
owners and operators grow anxious to control and
operate the facility, especially if the project
is behind schedule. This presentation will review
the tasks and dynamics leading up to the transition
of a terminal from initial engineering and team
assembly to commercial operation. The speaker will
share colorful experiences of projects as well as
views from the eyes of the construction personnel. |

The 'Cool-Down'
Gap
Jeff Beale, president,
CH-IV
As North America gears up for a number of
new LNG import facilities to come on line, preparations
involving the final cooldown of these facilities
is often relegated to a lower priority compared
to many other commissioning activities. There is
often a “gap” between the EPC developed cooldown
procedures and the level of procedure preparation
expected by the owner-operator. Unfortunately recognition
of this gap by the owner-operator is often delayed
until the closing months of commissioning, making
timely operator training and potential facility
modifications to properly handle the cooldown problematic.
This presentation will focus on how the owner-operator
can assure the development of appropriate and adequate
cooldown procedures in a well-timed fashion to close
the “cool-down” gap and ensure safe and effective
initial terminal cool down and transition to operations. |

FERC Requirements
During Commissioning and Start Up
Chris Zerby, chief, LNG
compliance branch, the Federal Energy Regulatory
Commission
FERC must give the go ahead for terminals to begin
operation. Zerby has been asked to describe the
typical review process, as well as lessons that
can be learned from previous experiences. |

CASE STUDY: Elba Expansion-Preparing
for Handoff: Steps from Commissioning to Operations
from an Operator's Perspective.
Scott Walden,
maintenance & marine superintendent, Elba
Island
Southern Natural Gas' Elba Island terminal
has completed two recent expansions and is proceeding
towards a third. Walden has been asked to discuss
the lessons learned from both of these experiences
and what they intend to do as they prepare for
their next expansion.
